Canvas update: New Quizzes replacing Classic Quizzes this fall
Ontario Tech is adopting New Quizzes in Canvas for the Fall 2025 term.
As you may have heard, Canvas has transitioned to a new quizzing engine called New Quizzes, which fully replaced the original quizzing tool (now known as Classic Quizzes) as of June 30.
While both tools were available at Ontario Tech during the New Quizzes Pilot (2022 to 2024) and the optional adoption phase (2024 to 2025), New Quizzes is now the only quiz engine supported in the university’s Canvas learning management system.
While you are no longer able to create Classic Quizzes, your existing quizzes and question banks will remain accessible and can be seamlessly migrated to the New Quiz format.

The Teaching and Learning Centre will continue to offer online New Quizzes Orientation sessions throughout the summer.

- Wednesday, July 9 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
- Thursday, July 17 from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
- Tuesday, July 22 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
- Thursday, July 31 from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
