Turtle Island Camp Testimonials

My son enjoyed a lot of the aspects this camp offered, most notably, the guest speakers that were brought in to discuss and demonstrate different aspects of their culture.

My daughter enjoyed everything about Turtle Island Camp. She loved the smudging ritual every morning. She enjoyed the crafts, such as the sit upon, feather beaded earrings, braided sweet grass.

This is my son’s favorite camp - he has taken many Ontario Tech camps in STEAM, Science and Coding.  He loves the offsite day and the activities and learning about Indigenous customs.

My daughter really enjoyed her experience at the camp. When she would smudge in the morning she really liked doing so.

My camper enjoyed everything that he learned. Every day he would tell me about all the interesting presentations. He enjoyed all activities and outings. He enjoyed chasing frogs and falling in the swamp on the first day  (lol).

While attending the Turtle Island camp, my camper learned how to make your own sunscreen.

My camper had a great experience. He met new friends. It made an impact: educational, social, and personal.

He learned a lot of new things, and gained a greater appreciation for his history. Smudging was new for him, and he has been asking to do it again.

Campers enjoyed smudging, drumming circle with guest, and learning more about Indigenous communities. They were also excited to learn about the different materials used off the land (i.e., cedar).

Campers enjoyed learning about the different Indigenous cultures and the languages spoken in said cultures. The environment created by camp facilitators was a safe space to foster learning and teaching, as well as making friends and feeling comfortable and confident to be who they are.
